Still receiving spam emails
« on: December 31, 2010, 07:42:39 PM »
Hiya,

Not sure if I've got the set up wrong but I'm using this plugin on our Rotary club website.

I have the plugin so that it checks with Stop Forum Spam with email threshold -1 (no emails). I installed the plugin yesterday and yet today I've received a spam email from someone posting a comment to the blog.

I checked Stop Forum Spam and it's definitely on their list so I don't think I should have received an email.

Is there something else I need to set up?

Thanks for your help and Happy New Year,
Karen

What was the context of the email?

Sorry I didn't keep it.

It was an email from my website stating that a comment had been posted but the comment was from a spammer promoting their product. I had expected that the comment wouldn't get that far since the IP address could be found on Stop Forum Spam.

What I've done is loaded that IP address into the black list as well and so far I've not had any more spam comments.

Regards,
Karen

If the IP the spammer used was in Stop Forum Spam it depends on how often it appears in their database and on your Termination threshold setting.
If you also use Project Honey Pot you still get an email when it's identified in their database.

Hi Peter,

I received another spam email yesterday. It's the email from WP saying that I have a new comment.

A new comment on the post "Buying a house when you're a migrant" is waiting for your approval

It’s really a nice and helpful piece of information. I’m glad that you shared this helpful info with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I check the stopforumspam website it has 200 entries for the IP address in the email.
My email threshold is -1 which I thought means that I shouldn't receive spam.
I'm not using honeypot at all.

Do I need to change something in my set up so that the emails are not sent at all anymore?

Thanks for your quick replies.

Regards,
Karen

Karen,

It's been a while since you reported this but I have finally identified the problem. I will be releasing a new version within a few days that will correct this problem.
