Thanks for the plugin. I just downloaded it.....

Question 1: How do I configure it to display only certain top level and sub categories? I just want to choose specific categories on the sidebar b/c we just created new ones for SEO and don't want the old ones to display.

2: Does the widget/plugin display differently on the homepage than the other pages?

If you want to display different categories on the home page compared to other pages I would use the new option Category Groups.

Create a group for the home page or edit the existing home group and add all the categories you want to show on the home page.
Create a group for all other pages and add the categories you would like to display.

In the General Options page, select your Home group to be shown on the home page.
Select the other group to be shown for Nonexistence and Default group.

Add the widget, AVH Extended Category: Category Group, to your sidebar, modify the options to your liking and you're done.

If you want the same categories to be displayed everywhere you can use the widget AVH Extended Categories and in the widget you can select which categories you would like to display.

Thanks Peter. My main concern is how to display only certain categories and not others. And if possible the sub nav of those categories.

I didn't see the option to select which categories to display in the widget.

The confirmation code is very hard to read.

To answer your question, no, mine doesn't have all those options.

It doesn't have Hide empty categories or Select Categories (All, Misc, etc).

Hey Peter,

Any idea why my widget doesn't offer the same options? I just downloaded the plugin. Maybe it wasn't the latest version. Please advise. I've got to get this up and running. Thanks!

Not really any idea but let's see if we can figure it out.

What version of WordPress are you running?
What's your site, so I can check some things, no need for admin access.
Which other plugins have you activated?

Site: www.oops50.com (your plugin is not active). The categories on the left sidebar are using the default plugin

Select Category Alternative
Home Group
Nonexistence Group
Default Group

And Donations on the right.

Wait....maybe you mean this by what options do I see. When I click on AVH Extended Categories on the bottom right of Admin, I see:

Category Groups
FAQ
